Christian Formation...

Christian education at Woodside provides opportunities to nurture and develop a caring community of believers in Jesus Christ through the education of our children and adults. We are committed to share in Christ’s love and light through teaching, service and worship.

Nursery (Up to 17 months)
Sundays, 9:00 AM - 12:00 noon, Room 148: The Woodside Nursery program provides a caring, safe, warm and comforting Christian environment for our youngest members (and visitors). The Nursery is staffed each week by two attendants and is open from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon each Sunday in Room 148 for infants and toddlers up to 17 months. A two-way radio is located in the nursery in case of emergencies.
Children's Sunday School
Nursery
All children are invited to attend the entrance portion of our worship service with their parents. Greeters and teachers meet the children in the Narthex after the Children's Message and accompany them to their rooms.

NEW!  Toddlers & Twos (Age 18-36 Months)
Room 150: Woodside’s new class for toddlers follows the Christian year. The weekly lesson plans are grouped in age appropriate monthly themes to provide for appropriate repetition and the lessons are also center based with stand alone centers. The curriculum for this class helps children ages 18 to 36 months: learn about Jesus, understand that God loves them, and know that church is a place where they are loved.

Godly Play (Age 3 – Kindergarten)
Room 146: Godly Play nurtures the spiritual development of children, seeking to help them know and experience God rather than knowing about God. The curriculum centers on the sharing of Biblical stories and the patterns of worship and liturgy. Godly Play calls forth the child's response to God, encouraging a sense of awe and wonder in the presence of the holy. It cultivates reverence for sacred space and respect for one another. It assists the child in the art of using religious language to help interpret what happens in their daily life.

Following Jesus (1st - 2nd grades)
Room 145: The Following Jesus class uses a biblically-based format, focusing on Bible stories and supplemented with contemporary narratives relevant too children's experiences.  The class structure permits exploration of Bible themes through arts, crafts, and discussion.

Young Disciples (3rd - 5th grades)
Room 210: The Young Disciples class uses a traditional lesson-based format which utilizes Bible stories. This class structure permits a wide discussion and joint exploration of Bible themes. The class closes with a Bible reading, prayer and the sharing of a feast. The Young Disciples are growing to be more active in the wider church. On Communion Sundays, the Young Disciples class remains in the sanctuary for the entire worship service to participate in the sacrament of Holy Communion.

Confirmation (6th - 7th grades)
Room 223
: Confirmation is a symbol of our commitment and covenant to love God and follow Jesus, and is for those who wish to examine the promises of baptism, to grow closer in their relationship with God, and to accept new responsibility for their life in faith. Confirmation is a journey, not the end of discipleship, but an important step along the way. The confirmation class meets on Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m. in Room 223 from September through May. The confirmands also participate in worship serving as acolytes, crucifers, scripture readers and ushers.

Godly Play
