Marie M. Matthews Director of Christian Education Marie has been the Director of Christian Education at Woodside since May 2002 where she coordinates, guides, and strengthens the Christian education programs. Youth Lay Speaking Class for the Washington West District. Marie is a member of the Curriculum Development Team for Cokesbury at the United Methodist Publishing House. She also serves as the Membership Secretary of the Baltimore-Washington Chapter of the Christian Educators Fellowship of the United Methodist Church, a member association for persons in the United Methodist Church who have responsibility for Christian Education.
Marie is passionate about the spiritual growth and Christian development of children and youth, stating that “children and youth are my priority”. Marie’s responsibilities at Woodside also include her helping Dr. Brunkow in leading worship, serving in diverse roles as liturgist, scripture reader, assisting with baptisms & communion, quarterly preaching and summer-long children’s sermons. She also visits the sick and shut-ins – and loves doing so! As if this weren’t enough, Marie attends Wesley Theological Seminary specializing in Christian Education and Youth Ministry. Marie is married with three children, and thanks God everyday for her husband who encourages her and supports her in her ministry.
